Description

This Joseph Finch, 1825 – 1830 10Ga Percussion shotgun was a humdinger in it’s day. Unfortunately someone restored it at some point in the 20th century.   Marked J. Finch Patent (Referring to Joseph Finch, New York, Apr. 12, 1823 Percussion lock patent).  This gun was heavily engraved, well stocked, and wonderfully built.  During the restoration a horn cap was installed, and a 1/2″ piece of walnut was added from the front of the lock out to the end of the 1/2 stock on both sides of the stock. The barrel was heavily sanded, and the lock was either replaced, or was block finished and case hardened (I suspect the latter as it fits the stock perfectly). The checking was recut, and the shotgun reblued.   It’s still a beautiful piece.
