Kentucky / Ohio Valley Hawken style 50 Cal, percussion half stock rifle.  Signed J. Hayden Oxford Ohio, with an L.C. & L lock.  All steel hardware with walnut furniture and double set triggers. Stock has light crack (1/2 inch) at front and rear of lock plate, otherwise free of damage.  Consistent patination across whole of rifle, with light pitting throughout.  Pewter cast end cap (period correct for 1850 – 1870).  Joseph Hayden of Oxford, Ohio, is estimated to have been active in 1848-1886, he was a fairly prolific builder of rifles, and most examples are 1/2 stock rifles like this one.  Lock was made by Latimer , Colburn & Co. can be marked L.G.C. &L or L. C.  & L  , lockmakers and hardware dealers in Cincinnati Ohio from 1856-1861.
